Dr Gutschmidt joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Canterbury in 2009. She pursues fundamental and applied research in the engineering disciplines of Dynamics, Vibrations, Acoustics and Mechatronics. She is an internationally recognised leader in the fields of nonlinear dynamics and coupled oscillators, in particular for MEMS & NEMS technology. Dr Gutschmidt’s research contributions for MedTech CORE include future sensor and detection technologies which are based on nonlinear dynamic phenomena as well as innovative actuators for medical devices. Current research projects include nonlinear sound detection for future cochlea implants, insulin sensing, and non-damaging ultrasonic bone drilling.
